Compton: After seven years, writer leaves job By George Compton Today marks the seventh anniversary of my column in The Ventura County Star. I would like to thank The Star for letting me reach out to veterans and their families about possible benefits. Today also marks my last column. I would like to thank the veterans of Ventura County for their service to this country and for allowing me to represent them at the federal and state level. Not all can go home again and find jobs that allow them to assist friends they have known since the third grade like this one. As with my time in the Army, this was never a job but an adventure. I would like to thank the staff of the Veterans Services Office for all its work in supporting me. The office will continue to assist veterans and their families and make a difference in many lives. The address and phone number for the office is at the bottom of the column, and I hope a new Veterans Services officer will continue with the column. — Send questions to Veterans Services Office, 1701 Pacific Ave., Suite 110, Oxnard, CA 93033, telephone 385-6366, fax 385-6371. Editor’s note: Today George Compton, who has retired from his job as the Veterans Services officer for the Ventura County Human Services Agency, writes his last column for The Star. The county Veterans Services Office wants to continue the column and is searching for someone to write it. The agency hopes to bring the column back sometime in the fall. —— MilitaryConnection.com is a portal of all things military.
