Solar Ready Vets Fellowship Provides Free On-The-Job Training to Veterans

Solar Ready Vets Fellowship Provides Free On-The-Job Training to Veterans

The transition between active-duty military and civilian life can be challenging for veterans, to say the least. One of the biggest hurdles transitioning Veterans must face involves not just a job search but establishing a career path.

It can be difficult to see the connection between skills cultivated as a member of the U.S. Armed Forces and the skills sought by hiring managers. The Solar Foundation acknowledges the significant overlap between the soft and technical skills required of leaders in the civilian sector and those of our nation’s Veterans.

A solar power program was created by the Solar Ready Vets Network in partnership with the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners, the Solar Energy Industries Association, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring our Heroes program. The program connects transitioning veterans with solar-industry career training and professional development opportunities.

The Solar Ready Vets Fellowship places qualified Veterans with solar industry employers, such as Solar Veterans of America, for on-the-job training and is offered at no cost to these employers. Candidates are matched with companies based on their career goals and the current needs of the business. The Fellowship aims to place Vets in a variety of managerial and professional roles such as sales, design, project management, operations, and installation.

Solar Ready Vets is committed to ensuring our Nation’s Veterans are given the resources they need to see as much success after the military as they did during active-duty service. The program, which works on a national scale, has supported over 500 Veterans with training and employment opportunities. Additionally, the Solar Foundation produces many reports through its solar jobs research. Of particular interest is Veterans in Solar: Securing America’s Energy Future, which highlights the contributions made by Veterans to the solar industry.
