Bob Hope traveled the world with the USO for six decades, visiting remote outposts and battleships to support and entertain our nation’s service members and their families. He was passionate about helping troops and families stay connected from halfway around the globe, and his legacy lives on today.
The Bob Hope Legacy is has partnered with the USO to create the Bob Hope Legacy Reading Program, with a mission to bring military families together. Today, the program is driven by virtual, on-demand story-time offerings, which help the USO extend its reach to families and locations with which it wouldn’t otherwise be able to connect.
The USO Bob Hope Legacy Reading Program brings story time on demand to everyplace around the world. When a service member is stationed overseas, the USO is there to provide that powerful connection back home.
Through the Bob Hope Legacy Reading Program, service members can read to their children from halfway around the globe. They simply walk into participating USO locations, record themselves reading their child’s favorite story and have that recording shipped home.
The USO reading program makes it possible for military kids to add a new book to their own library and share story time with someone they love by recording themselves reading. The USO sends the recording to the child’s loved one serving elsewhere, so the service member doesn’t have to miss out on the special moment.
USO reading programs are available in many military installations around the world and are designed to serve the unique needs of each military community. For some locations, the Bob Hope Legacy Reading Program gives military families managing a loved one’s deployment the chance to connect with other families in similar situations. Other programs help kids complete a craft that complements a story’s theme. No matter where service takes our nation’s military families, the Bob Hope Legacy Reading Program is dedicated to helping bridge that distance.
