When like-minded organizations seeking to improve the lives of those who have served join forces, great things can happen. Such is the case with the partnership between Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV and the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet), formed to build homes for Veterans and their families. The recipients of these homes benefit by living in Enriched Neighborhood® communities that provide housing services and Enrichment Services that set them up for success.
With the help of programs through CalVet, low-income Veteran families have the opportunity to purchase a home with 500 hours sweat equity and a 0% interest mortgage. Resale restrictions keep the home in the affordable housing market for a fixed number of years, allowing for modest equity growth for the family.
