Veteran Expeditions Creates Community and Camaraderie for our Nation’s Veterans

Veteran Expeditions, also known as Vet Ex, was founded in 2010 to enhance the lives of those who served our country. This veteran-led nonprofit understands the issues and struggles veterans deal with every day. So, they created a community oriented organization that focuses on benefiting the mind and body through outdoor adventures and giving back. In fact, in 2014 this veteran adventure group was named National Geographic’s Community Builder Adventurer of the Year.

Veteran Expeditions offers a variety of outdoor trips and events throughout the country, all intended to help improve the lives of those who served. By undertaking these challenges, participants prove to themselves that they are capable of contributing to a team and accomplishing a difficult mission.

These expeditions aim to address, and perhaps reverse, the disappointing trends in the veteran population including, high rates of homelessness, unemployment, drug use, incarceration, and suicide. Through shared stories and experience a community is built, and through outdoor experience Veterans strengthen their bodies and reconnect with the land they served. And because Vet Ex believes so strongly in their mission and the benefit of outdoor activity and community, they didn’t let COVID put a stop to their adventure and travel programs for veterans.

Building camaraderie and teamwork is just too important, especially during a time of such uncertainty and discomfort.

With veteran expeditions in all forms of outdoor adventures – rock climbing, mountain biking, mountaineering, backpacking, bike packing, paddle boarding, rafting, and so much more – there is something for every age, preference, and physical ability.

Check out the Vet Ex Facebook page for photos of past events, and visit the Vet Ex website for information about upcoming adventures. Veteran Expeditions also accepts donations to help vets get outside and continue building a community of their own. Learn more by visiting their donations page.
