Military Connection: IBM offers Training/Certification to Veterans

By Debbie Gregory.

Recently, IBM launched its new Veterans Employment initiative to help Veterans and military spouses through i2 Analyst’s Notebook software training.

The i2 Analyst’s Notebook is software created by IBM that allows analysts to quickly collate, analyze and visualize data from disparate sources, while reducing the time required to discover key information in complex data. The software delivers timely, actionable intelligence to help identify, predict, prevent, and disrupt criminal, terrorist, and fraudulent activities. Those certified in the program by IBM are in high demand.

The first training of this type took place in September, 2014, as part of a partnership between IBM, Corporate America Supports You (CASY), and the Military Spouses Corporate Career Network (MSCCN). Through the program, 90% of the trainees attained an i2 certification.

The collaborative is on a mission to expand the program in 2015, with as many as seven separate trainings taking place this year, partially funded by a grant from IBM. Through the program, as many as 100 Veterans and military spouses will be instructed on the i2 Analyst’s Notebook by expert software trainers, each session lasting five days.

Employers are expected to hire approximately 190,000 data analysts over the next few years, requiring credentials that the certifications from this program will meet. The partners in this collaboration all recognize the need within the industry,  as well as the need to combat the high unemployment rate for Post-9/11-era Veterans. They see an opportunity to solve both issues simultaneously.

Along with training Veterans and military spouses, the i2 training initiative also partners with IBM clients, including employers such as JP Morgan Chase and Citi, to try to find jobs and assistance for trained and certified graduates of the program.

The IBM-CASY-MSCCN partnership has identified more than 490 military occupational specialties and other desirable traits and experiences that the ideal candidate would be familiar with.

For those interested in the i2 Analyst’s Notebook training, applicants should first review the 2015 training calendar to view session dates, and then register at http://casy.us/JobSeekers/
