Supermodel Kate Upton Challenged by Marine Corps Workout-For Charity

By Debbie Gregory.

Kate Upton is in great shape. Besides being the 2017 Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover girl, the 25-year-old supermodel is an accomplished weightlifter. But Upton met her match when she came up against the U.S. Marines.

On August 22nd, Upton was part of Workout with the Marines, an event organized by the Wins for Warriors Foundation, a group founded by Upton’s fiancé and Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander.

The couple began dating in 2011 and got engaged in 2016.

Gunnery Sgt. Sara Pacheco, a Marine Corps fitness instructor, ran Upton and five MLB Detroit Tigers’ wives and significant others through a 13-minute workout that included burpees, traveling push-ups, prisoner squats, side straddle hops, lunges, butt-kickers, and toe touches. WHEW!

The workout raised awareness for Detroit Marine Week. Marine Week, hosted by the United States Marine Corps in one city per year, is a celebration of Community, Country and Corps – providing the American public the experience of directly connecting with hundreds of Marines.

Roughly 700 Marines will come to Detroit to compete in activities that honor all active duty Marines.

From September 6–10, Marine Week Detroit will feature hands-on static displays, live demonstrations, time-honored Marine Corps traditions, musical performances and other events to showcase the history, military capabilities and community involvement of the Corps.

“The Marines put on a ruck of 100 pounds, and they’re going for 20 miles,” said Upton. “They never stop, so it showed me that I have a long way to go before I ever put a ruck on my back.”

This is the first time that Detroit has been tapped to host Marine Week.

Military Connection salutes and proudly serves veterans and service members in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Guard and Reserve,  and their families.
