Military Connection: Saying “Thank you, Soldier”

By Debbie Gregory.

Service members from all across the country have deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan for more than decade. They, along with their families, have sacrificed for our freedom.  When they transition back to civilian life, many of them may face issues such as unemployment, homelessness, as well as the physical and mental strain of long deployments. We owe them a debt of gratitude that is hard to repay.

To thank their local heroes, The Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the Association of the United States Army is deeply committed to helping resolve these challenges. They do so by providing emergency financial assistance to families, getting homeless Veterans into transitional housing, hosting training classes and workshops, providing holiday gifts for military families in need and many other family programs.

But sometimes, there is nothing better than a night out on the time- some downtime to forget about their worries, be honored for their service, and enjoy the company of their spouse or significant other. This is also a great opportunity for the community to honor and salute their service.

The annual Army Birthday Ball in Long Beach, CA  is a great night out, made possible through the generous donations of individuals and companies. This year, the event will be held on Saturday, May 30th aboard the legendary Queen Mary in Long Beach.

The request for seats always outnumbers the donated seats available. There is so much pride on display when these soldiers are asked to  stand and be recognized by all present in the ballroom. They wear their uniforms with  honor. But they need your help to be able to attend.

Your donation makes it possible for a local Soldier to celebrate in style. You can donate $25, $50, $100 or more, and there are also  opportunities to sponsor an entire table. Every donation makes a difference! Go to http://ausaglac.info/activities/outreach-activities/army-ball/ for more information or to make a donation.
