What is Family Separation Pay?

Service members are entitled to Family Separation Pay if their families cannot accompany them overseas or when the government will not move their families and they face additional expenses. The government provides a monthly payment of $250 as reimbursement for some of the daily expenses incurred when family are separated. Service members on temporary duty for more than 30 days also receive this allowance. Family Separation pay is not subject to taxes.
