When You Need Some R&R

Veterans Day affords us the opportunity to recognize those who have served and continue to serve in our nation’s armed forces. It is through their service and sacrifices that we live in freedom.

On Veterans Day, you can find quite a few veterans taking advantage of the many opportunities offered to them, from complimentary restaurant meals to discounted power tools. But one opportunity that all veterans should take advantage of is a discounted vacation.

Armed Forces Vacation Club and Veterans Holidays salute veterans and active military this week by offering $50 off select seven-night resort stays in celebration of Veterans Day. The discount is available today through November 15, 2016.

Popular destination spots available include Orlando, Las Vegas, Branson, and Lake Tahoe. Eligible members can also book travel to international vacation spots including Mexico, the Bahamas, New Zealand, and many European destinations.

Accommodations range in size from studios to three bedrooms, many of which include living rooms, full kitchens, and access to resort amenities.

Significant disruptions in their lives and other personal hardships have been the price that our nation’s military members and veterans have paid, so that the rest of us might enjoy the fruits of justice and liberty.

“We know that vacations can offer quality family bonding and rejuvenation time, which is so important for veterans, active military, retirees and their families.” said Tracey Moore, director of Marketing. “We created both of our clubs to offer affordable resort accommodations to make vacationing accessible to those who serve or have served our great nation.”

Membership for eligible military and veterans is complimentary, and provides access to discounted vacations year round. Armed Forces Vacation Club is open to active duty, guard, reserve and retired members of the U.S. Armed Forces, as well as civilian employees of the Department of Defense. Veterans Holidays is open to all veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Membership provides access to seven-night vacation accommodations, starting from $349 per week, as well as other vacation options and travel planning resources.

Why You Need R&R: Military Connection

Military Connection: AFVC

By Shelly Howard

Veteran of the U.S. Navy

“You don’t know how to relax,” was one of my wife’s criticisms. “You don’t know how to rest your body and mind.

She was right. Like the proverbial chicken, I have always been a busy person. Some might even say “taskmaster.” But there comes a point when you realize that life is not a dress rehearsal. We are given a finite amount of time to enjoy our lives.

Relaxing your mind and body, turning off the switch so that you forget about everything related to work and life stressors is what R&R is all about. Scientific studies have shown that people who take regular vacations are better at their jobs. Vacation time is important for physical health, emotional health, interpersonal clarity and personal comfort, as well as increased efficiency and decreased irritability.

With that said, the last thing you want to stress out about is paying for your vacation, or being cramped into a small room with your spouse and kids. And that’s why the vacation lodgings available through Armed Forces Vacation Club (AFVC) are such a great value to those of us who serve, past and present.

AFVC has lodging available virtually everywhere, including most states in the U.S., Europe, Australia, Canada, Mexico…well, you get the idea. And whether you decide to spend your vacation time sunning on the beach, sightseeing, reading a book, shopping, or just reconnecting with loved ones, AFVC can help you book affordable lodging.

So if you’re ready to give your mind a break from work and from the stresses of everyday “headless chicken” life, sign up for free membership on AFVC’s website.
