When is Military Spouse Appreciation Day 2021?

Military Spouse Appreciation Day, which was originally Military Wives Appreciation Day, has been celebrated on the Friday before Mother’s Day every year since 1984. This year, National Military Spouse Day is Friday, May 7th.

Why Celebrate Military Spouse Appreciation Day?

The husbands and wives of our military service members don’t have it easy. Between never-ending change, frequent separation from loved ones, all the day-to-day duties that fall on their shoulders during times of separation, and constant uncertainty about what will happen next, military spouses take it all in stride. They are just as much heroes as their service member spouses, but they don’t receive nearly as much recognition.

How to Honor a MilSpouse on Military Spouse Appreciation Day

Help during deployment. Offer to babysit, mow the lawn, take charge of carpool, drop off a meal. Simple acts of kindness mean so much, especially during deployment when there isn’t someone to split the household and parenting tasks with.

Attend a Local Celebration. Many towns across the country hold Military Spouse Appreciation Events. Check to see if your town has one, and if so, participate or volunteer. If the locals aren’t hosing an event, contact the closest military installation to see how they are celebrating.

Be Social. Social media may be one of the simplest ways to publicly honor the undying support and devotion of American military spouses. Post something original or share a post celebrating our Military Spouses.
