Military Connection: Reserve Organization Seeks Next California Leader
By Joe Silva
Those who serve in the National Guard and Reserves are essential members of our nation’s military, and California’s communities and economy as well. Supporting our National Guard and Reserve personnel is crucial to these patriots’ successes in their military and civilian careers.
For over 40 years, the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) has been advocating for and supporting Reserve component members. They are now looking to fill the position of California State Chairman.
MilitaryConnection.com is proud to join forces with the CA ESGR to assist their great works. “We offer pro-bono advertising for ESGR news and events, and look forward to assisting the ESGR fill this open position,” said Military Connection CEO Debbie Gregory. She continued, “The ESGR State Chairman is a volunteer position that comes with a lot of responsibility, and requires someone with experience, compassion and an understanding of the importance of National Guard and Reserve missions.”
State Chairs are responsible for all aspects of ESGR operations within their state. Chairs direct, organized, motivate, supervise and lead other ESGR members from various backgrounds and abilities. They are also responsible for developing and executing their state’s annual spending and budget, in conjunction with staff. The State Chair is California’s representative to the National ESGR and the Department of Defense, and is considered an employee of the DOD while on ESGR missions.
In this prestigious position, the ESGR State Chair meets with other ESGR members and leaders, as well as business and industry leaders, CEO’s, mayors, city and county elected officials, state and federal congressional representatives and governors.
California’s Chair is responsible for the largest ESGR committee in the country, numbering 178 volunteers and nine staff members, who are collectively responsible for supporting 59,000 National Guard and Reservists, and working with approximately 15,000 employers.
The ESGR is looking for demonstrated leader, who has the availability and dedication to devote to executing ESGR missions and business. The ideal candidate will be a great communicator, with stellar organizational and delegation skill, as well as experience with volunteer organizations.
To apply for the volunteer position, applicants should submit their biography or résumé via email to patrickk@cableone.net by January 30, 2015. Applicants may also submit, for review, letters containing their willingness to accept the position, reasons for wanting the position, and ideas for running California’s ESGR. Questions regarding the position should be directed to the same email address.
Gregory said, “Military Connection proudly supports the ESGR and their mission throughout the nation. In my home state of California, we anxiously await the new state leader.”
The volunteer State Chair position is appointed for three years. The term that ESGR is currently looking to appoint will run from October 1, 2015 through September 30, 2018.
