VA GI Bill – Veteran Education Benefits, College, School

VA GI Bill, Veteran Education Benefits, Veteran College/School, Post 9/11 GI Bill Benefits

How is the new VA GI Bill different from the Montgomery GI Bill?

The new VA GI Bill benefits are different from the Montgomery GI Bill in a number of respects. So if want help covering the cost of schools for veterans, research both types of veteran education benefits. Whatever your veteran school goals, be it veteran college or vocational training, either the Montgomery or post 9/11 GI Bill can help with your education for veterans needs.

Both the new VA GI Bill and the Montgomery GI Bill provide veteran education benefits for veteran school. Yet unlike the Montgomery which only provides tuition for veteran college and other schools for veterans, the post 9/11 GI Bill provides education for veterans’ stipends for:

    • Housing

    • Books

    • School supplies

You’re eligible for veteran education benefits through the Montgomery GI Bill if you entered service after June 30, 1985. As for the new VA GI Bill, you’re eligible if you entered service after September 11, 2001. Another difference is how tuition is paid out for veteran college and other opportunities for education for veterans. The Montgomery makes payments to students while the post 9/11 GI Bill makes payments directly to schools for veterans.

The amount of veteran education benefits you qualify for depends on length of service. The new VA GI Bill benefits include full-tuition, whereas the Montgomery is a flat $1,321 a month for veteran college or other educational opportunities.
