Keith Vencel’s Biography

Keith L. Vencel is the President of Human Capital Optimization, a private firm focused towards organizational development, talent management, and online and platform training. Keith is a senior human resources executive, strategist, and an expert in building human capital strategies for learning organizations. He is a transformational leader and seasoned professional and change agent, and over the last twenty years he has focused on driving cultural change and enabling his clients to journey towards “Employer of Choice” status.

Keith currently serves on the National Advisory Board, Human Capital Institute which shapes leadership practices and provides a continuum of knowledge for executives and business leaders. In 2005, Keith was recognized as the Human Capital magazine’s “Future HR Leader” honoree for shaping and contributing to the future of the HR industry. He was also recognized as the “Role Model of the Year” by  Rebel with a Cause, a not-for-profit organization promoting patriotism. 

Keith Vencel is on the cutting edge of assessing and implementing technology and process improvement initiatives for his clients. His leadership style results in implementing strategies with an eye towards optimization.  His deliverables include dollar savings, economy of scale purchases and an ambassador for best practice(s). His most recent success story includes shepherding and installing HR technology solution(s) into 27 business divisions, consisting of 40,000 employees located in the San Francisco Bay, Sacramento, Central Valley and Northern California rural areas. His projects included talent management systems, contingent workforce management, need assessment tools, survey instrument technology, portal development, and shaping Human Capital initiatives for enterprise-wide adoption. In 2002 the Equal Opportunity Publications-Careers and Disabled Magazine recognized Keith as the “Employee of the Year”.

Keith is recognized as a published author and speaker. His articles have appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle, Human Capital Institute.org, HR.com, and other online and print mediums. He is quoted in professional magazines, trade publications, and newspapers regarding his expertise in human resources and technology. The list includes leading business press worldwide such as Computer World, Information Week, HR Magazine, Internet Week, Online Recruiting Strategist, e-Week and the L.A. Times. He is a leading expert in HR technology tools and implementing change management initiatives.

He has over a decade of experience teaching in the university setting. He is currently a senior Faculty Practitioner for the MBA program at the University of Phoenix, Northern California Campus.  Prior to this teaching experience, he was an Assistant Professor, Troy State University-Florida Region.  His academic accomplishments include a Masters of Science in Human Resources Management from Golden Gate University and a Bachelors Degree in Social Service from Cleveland State University.

Keith L. Vencel is also a veteran of the United States Air Force. He started his career as an enlisted person and retired as an Air Force Commissioned Officer. During his Air Force experience, he earned numerous citations and medals for leadership and sacrifice. His recognition includes: the prestigious “Commander in Chief–Special Recognition for Leadership and Excellence” presented by the former Secretary of Defense, Mr. Dick Cheney; “Top Air Force Nurse Recruiter of the Year”; and “Air Force Youth Relations Representative of the Year”.
