GI Bill: Can I receive REAP (Chapter 1607) with any other education benefit?

Can I receive REAP (Chapter 1607) with any other education benefit?

No, you must make an irrevocable election choosing which program you want your military service to count towards. You also cannot receive assistance under more than one VA education program at one time. If you are eligible for an MGIB-SR (Chapter 1606) kicker, you can still be paid that kicker while receiving REAP (Chapter 1607) benefits.

To learn more about REAP and other VA education benefits, please click here.

Once you have chosen a benefit, you must notify VA of your choice. To do this:

  1. Click on the “Ask a Question” tab at the top of this page
  2. Enter your email address
  3. Choose the category “Reserve Ed Asst Prog (Ch 1607)(REAP)”
  4. Insert a subject into the required field such as “REAP Election”
  5. Enter a statement into the next field such as “I choose to receive REAP benefits” OR “I choose to receive MGIB-Selected Reserve benefits”
  6. Click the “Submit” button

You will be taken to the next screen which requires you to enter further information. This information is required – we use it to identify you and route the message to the correct VA office. Be sure to enter a “Password” of your choice.

Click on the “Create Account” button at the bottom of the page and you are done. If they have any questions regarding your election, they will contact you via email.
