GI Bill: Does the military collect $1,200 from me if I am going to be eligible for Montgomery GI Bill-Active Duty?

Does the military collect $1,200 from me if I am going to be eligible for Montgomery GI Bill-Active Duty?

Yes, the military will collect $1,200 as long as you have not declined MGIB-Active Duty (Chapter 30). However, the fact that a person didn’t have the $1,200 pay reduction does not cancel out his or her eligibility to MGIB-AD (Chapter 30).

If you are unsure of your eligibility for MGIB-Active Duty, please submit an application for education benefits to VA for a formal decision. You can find information about how to apply by clicking here.
