Do you have information on the Army MGIB Transferability Program?

This program is administered by the Department of the Army. The Army determines who is eligible and completes all paperwork. Once all paperwork is completed by the Army, VA will administer the actual payment of benefits.

Basic information is as follows:

  • Spouses and children may be eligible for this benefit
  • The soldier must have elected the GI Bill upon enlistment
  • The soldier must have at least 6 years of active duty upon reenlistment (10 years for transfer to children)
  • The soldier must reenlist for at least 4 years
  • The soldier must be serving an a MOS specific SRB zone B or C
  • The soldier may transfer up to 18 months of their GI Bill to dependents, the dependents have 10 years from the soldier’s date of discharge to utilize their benefits. Children are eligible between ages 18 – 26 (or 10 years from the soldier’s date of discharge – whichever comes first), and must have a secondary school diploma or equivalent.
