George Compton Biography

George Compton was appointed as a veterans service officer for Ventura County in December 2000. George grew up in Ventura County and graduated from Buena High School and Ventura College. He is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College and has a Masters Degree from the Florida Institute of Technology.

As Veterans Service Officer George is responsible for providing services to the 60,000 veterans in ventura County. His office assists veterans in applying for benefits from the Department of Veteran Affairs, the State Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as with other federal, state, and local agencies.

George entered Military Service in 1966. He served in the United States Army for twenty-seven years, retiring with the rank of Colonel. He commanded soldiers in Alaska, Vietnam, Germany, Korea, and Panama. He commanded the United States Southern Command’s deployable Joint Task Force, during the invasion of Panama. His final assignment was as president of a physical evaluation board. His military awards include the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, multiple bronze stars, the Air Medal, and the Purple Heart.

George is the Ventura County Representative to the VA Greater Los Angeles Community Advisory Board. He is a past president of the California Association of Veteran Service Officers. George is the “Veterans Advisor”, providing information to veterans and their families.
