Inaugural Simi Valley Freedom Walk set for fifth anniversary of 9/11/01

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Military Connection.com will host the inaugural Simi Valley Freedom Walk to pay tribute to the victims of the attacks of 9/11 and to honor U.S. troops and veterans at 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 11.

The 1.8-mile walk will begin in the Reagan Library’s courtyard at 40 Presidential Drive and will conclude at Rancho Madera Community Park off Wood Ranch Parkway. A free shuttle service will return participants to their cars at the library.

The first 750 people who register for the walk will receive a free Freedom Walk T-shirt and an American flag.

One of the event guest speakers will be Capt. Brandon Teague, Infantry Company Commander of the U.S. Army. He served as assistant operations officer during deployment to Afghanistan where he conducted more than 25 combat air assault missions. His battalion was later deployed to Baghdad, Iraq to oust insurgents and conduct humanitarian assistance. Tague has received numerous military medals and badges.

The America Supports You Freedom Walk was launched last year to establish a national tradition to reflect on the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

Last year, 15,000 people marched in Washington, D.C. to inaugurate this annual event.
