Q. With my disability rating from the VA I know I am eligible for vocational rehabilitation, but I have not applied because I do not know what field I would like to enter. Can I get help with that decision?

A. When you apply for vocational rehabilitation you will discuss your options, based on interests, ability and disability limitations, with a counselor.

Based on your work with the counselor, you will have a rehabilitation/employment plan approved.

We are fortunate to have a real professional in that field to work with veterans in this county.

We will help you with your application.

Q. My son was injured in an automobile accident in the service, and now he cannot get any compensation benefits from those injuries. Can you help?

A. In reviewing your son’s claim, he was denied benefits because his accident was caused by driving while intoxicated.

The accident report found him not in the line of duty due to willful misconduct.

With those findings he is not eligible for compensation.

Q. My husband was a veteran, and he is buried at Riverside National Cemetery. I know I can be buried with him. Do I lose that eligibility if I remarry?

A. Surviving spouses of veterans who died on or after Jan. 1, 2000, do not lose eligibility for burial in a national cemetery if they remarry.

Q. I have been using Chapter 35 Education Benefits for some time.

How can I find out how much longer I can continue my education on this program?

A. Call 888-442-4551. That office is in Oklahoma, so call early in the morning.

Q. I am rated 50 percent disabled by the VA, and I am now married with a stepchild. What do I need to do to add them to my award?

A. Provide this office with a marriage certificate, a birth certificate for the child and Social Security numbers for both; we will provide that data to the VA.
