Q. I was recently laid off from the company where I had worked for the last 10 years. Fortunately I have found a part-time job. I have VA medical benefits, but my wife, also a part-time employee, has no medical coverage. Any suggestions?

A. Your wife could be eligible for the Access Coverage and Enrollment (ACE) Program. The ACE program is designed to provide primary and outpatient and inpatient services, including prescriptions.

To qualify for the program an individual must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident; age 19 thru 64; live or work in Ventura County; not be enrolled in any type of insurance coverage program; and income cannot exceed 200 percent of the federal poverty level.

To get more information and assistance in applying call 677-5260.

Q. I bought a parcel of land in Arizona and I would like to have a manufactured home there. Is it possible to use a VA home loan?

A. The VA does guarantee a loan for a manufactured home, but there are some specific rules. The following is from the VA pamphlet on Manufactured Home Loans:

A manufactured home is built on a permanent frame and is made to be moved in one or more sections. It must be built to be lived in year-round by a single family and there must be permanent eating, cooking, sleeping, and sanitary facilities. A single-wide manufactured (mobile) home must be at least 10 feet wide, with a minimum floor area of 400 square feet; double-wide units must be at least 20 feet wide, with at least 700 square feet of floor space.

The maximum terms for manufactured home loans are: 20 years and 32 days for a single-wide unit or a combination single-wide unit and lot; 23 years and 32 days for a double-wide unit only; 25 years and 32 days for a double-wide unit and lot.

We are sending you a copy of the pamphlet; it will explain how to obtain a loan.
