Q. Last year I attended a veterans job fair in Oxnard. Will there be another one this year?

A. The “Honor a Hero, Hire a Vet” Job and Resource Fair for this area will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 17 at Warner Center Marriott Hotel, 21850 Oxnard St. in Woodland Hills. This event, sponsored by the state of California, is to assist veterans, National Guard and reservists returning from active duty, but it is open to all job seekers.

There are valuable workshops for job seekers through the local Employment Development Department before the job fair.

For additional information, please call 382-8610.

Q. In a previous column you stated that if a veteran was rated 100 percent disabled, the spouse would be eligible for medical care through the VA. I am 100 percent disabled and the application for my spouse was denied. Can you explain?

A. You were denied because you have a temporary rating of 100 percent and you will be reevaluated at a later date. Based on your medical condition, you will probably not remain 100 percent disabled.

Q. I received funds under the Traumatic Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance from injuries I suffered in Iraq. I now have been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. Will I get funds from the same program for that diagnosis?

A. Traumatic Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance (TSGLI) is a traumatic injury protection rider under Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance (SGLI) that provides for payment to any member of the uniformed services covered by SGLI who sustains a traumatic injury that results in certain severe losses.

TSGLI does not cover illnesses or diseases.

However, we need to file a claim with the VA for your Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The fact you were given TSGLI will provide verification of a stressor to substantiate your claim.
