With the new veterans home opening in Ventura, you may be asking how you can help and make a donation.

When donating material items, the first thing to do is contact the veterans home staff at 765-5601 to ensure the donation is appropriate. For example, The Soldiers’ Angels recently donated a computer and a World War II game, which were readily accepted.

Remember that the home is still being constructed and the staff has limited storage space.

There is currently a charitable organization being established called the Ventura County Veterans Foundation.

It is able to accept monetary donations for the home and for other projects in Ventura County. All money raised in Ventura County will be spent by the Foundation on veterans living in Ventura County.

Many services provided to the veterans at the new home are not funded by the state of California. This foundation will supplement the services provided by taxpayer money.

Please be a part of this wonderful opportunity to thank and provide for our veterans, who have sacrificed and given so much for our freedom and way of life. Donations can also be made in honor of any veteran, living or deceased.

We have always asked of our young men and women more than we have a right to ask, and they have always given to their country up to and including their lives.

Let’s show the nation how we appreciate, provide and care for our veterans living here in Ventura County.

The board of the Foundation is currently being formed. Funds for the Ventura County Veterans Fund can currently be made payable to the CDVA Vet Fund. Send your tax- deductible check to the Ventura County Veterans Foundation at 4219 Transport St., Ventura, CA 93003, to the attention of Ronald J. Greenwood. Let’s keep the nation’s promise to our veterans to never forget their service and sacrifice.
