The Army Reserve Culinary Arts Team Brings Home 35 Medals At the Largest Culinary Competition in the US In its 35th year at Fort Lee, Virginia, the USACAC continues to be the largest culinary arts competition in the U.S. This year, the Army Reserve Culinary Arts Team shone bright as they pulled away with 35 medals (including 4 golds) and 3 honorable mention awards. The medals were awarded in a closing ceremony held on March 12, 2010. The army team finished the competition in the respectable 5th place, falling only 1.5 points short of placing in the top three teams. “I’m so excited to be on that team,” Staff Sgt. Joseph Parker said. “I think it leads the way for the Army Reserve and the young soldiers coming up.” The soldier-chefs had minimal time to prepare compared to other teams because the members are reservists. In the end, their drive and combined efforts paid off as they reached their ultimate goal of placing in the top five. The team consisted of 13 Army Reserve members. Three of those members were awarded places with the prestigious U.S. Army Culinary Arts Team that will compete against teams from around the world at the World Culinary Olympics, taking place in Luxembourg later this year. This is the first time Reserve members have been awarded places on the U.S. Army Culinary Arts Team.
