New Health Campaign Promotion Tackles Depression

New Health Campaign Promotion Tackles Depression

Posted by: Health.mil Staff

The challenges facing service members and their families can include a rollercoaster of emotions and sometimes lead to depression. To raise awareness that exercise and staying active can help some people fight the blues, a new program, “Healthy Body, Healthy Mind. It’s In the Bag,” is distributing gym bags at U.S. military installations worldwide.  The bags display the website www.MindBodyStrength.org, where service members and their families can check their mental health by taking an anonymous self-assessment.

The campaign launch coincides with National Depression Screening Day on Oct. 6.

Military Pathways, the organization behind the campaign, is funded by the Department of Defense Office of Force Health Protection and Readiness under DoD’s Psychological Health Strategic Operations directorate. PHSO develops policy recommendations and programs that strengthen the psychological health of service members and their families to foster mental well-being throughout the deployment cycle.
