William Jessup University to Offer Full Tuition for Yellow Ribbon Veterans

Effective for the 2009-2010 school year, William Jessup University is offering to cover the complete tuition cost of all veterans who have served for at least 36 collective months on active duty since September 11, 2001. The full tuition scholarship will cover any program offered at the University.

WJU was encouraged to provide this service because the GI Bill currently limits the variety of schools veterans can choose from due to varying benefit amounts for public and private institutions. Under the GI Bill, veterans are allowed benefit payments up to the most expensive public undergraduate school in the state. Unfortunately, for states that have low public school tuition costs, it is nearly impossible for veterans to afford a private school of their choice. Hence, the Veterans Administration created the Yellow Ribbon Program, an added provision to the current GI Bill.

It is under the Yellow Ribbon Program that WJU really shines. For those eligible, the University will cover up to 50% of the college costs that are left uncovered by the GI Bill. In return, the VA has decided to match WJU’s scholarship, culminating in students’ complete coverage of tuition and fees. In addition to the matched scholarship funding, the VA contributes a monthly allowance for housing and up to $1,000 each year for books and supplies.
