Would you like to earn or finish a college degree? Does it seem impossible to juggle your current military career with attending school? If you keep coming up with reasons “why I can’t attend,” then here are some reasons why you should earn your college degree at regionally accredited Keiser University.

At Keiser we greatly appreciate the service and sacrifice of our men and women in the military and we understand the unique training and responsibility that goes with protecting our country. Keiser is a career focused institution with curriculum designed to help prepare our troops to either transition into the civilian sector successfully or to advance within their military careers with higher education.

Keiser University serves approximately 16,500 students at its 13 campuses throughout the state, the Graduate School and through the online division. The main campus is located in Fort Lauderdale with additional campuses in Kendall, Pembroke Pines, West Palm Beach, Port Saint Lucie, Melbourne, Sarasota, Tampa, Lakeland, Orlando, Daytona Beach, Jacksonville, and Tallahassee. Keiser University also has international cooperative locations in China and Moldova.

Why would an individual choose to attend Keiser University? Students attend one class at a time for one month, as opposed to multiple classes simultaneously. Class sizes at Keiser University are small, with the average class size having 15 students. Also, the online division is available 24 hours a day. Keiser University is a leader in workforce education offering degrees in high-demand fields including allied health, business, computer technology, criminal justice and legal disciplines. Students not only learn classroom theory but also gain valuable hands-on experience on equipment they will use in their new profession. Finally, the faculty’s real world experience, combined with academic credentials, gives the strong background needed to help students relate to classroom theory, the workplace and, eventually their new careers.

Students in computer fields work in labs equipped with the computers, programs, and technology used in some of the nation’s most advanced companies. Allied health program majors will be exposed to equipment to familiarize them with actual medical settings and be taught by instructors who have used this equipment on the job. Through the technology and resources students use throughout their education, they are prepared for the challenges of the modern day workplace. Some of the popular campus based courses for military students are Crime Scene Technology, Sports Medicine and Fitness Technology and Information Technology.

Some exceptional national rankings, according to Community College Week, show that in 2009 Keiser University was Florida’s leader in Health Professions & Related Clinical Sciences with 1,538 graduates. Keiser is ranked 14th nationally as an Associate Degree granting university.

Keiser University’s online division is ideal for students to study on their own schedule. While students are required to submit work by a certain date, they can go into their virtual classroom, chat with peers and learn on their own time frame. This flexibility meets many of the military student’s life demands such as being deployed, called up for base exercises or transferring. Considering the military student’s shift demands of 24/7, online classes offer the availability of meeting anytime at the convenience of the student.

Another advantage of the online program’s accessibility is that students are learning with people from all over the world. Therefore, the classroom will have an extremely diverse population which leads to a global classroom learning experience.

Frequently military students have accumulated credits from multiple institutions. The Interdisciplinary Studies degree can be a great option. The Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies provides a student with a personally tailored curriculum, including multiple disciplines, while also utilizing past college courses and professional experience toward completion of a four-year degree. This program is ideal for the military student who has been attending a variety of schools, earning a large number of credits, but never completing a degree. Interdisciplinary Studies allows students to “build a degree program” and ultimately graduate.

“Keiser University is approved to accept military credits (ACE), which helps in transferring the skills earned in the military towards their degree,” said Sherry Olsen, online division Vice President. Aside from the Interdisciplinary Studies degree other popular degrees military students are enrolling in include Radiologic Technology, Homeland Security, Nursing, Criminal Justice and Business Administration.

Keiser University is an active member of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges Consortium strengthening this working relationship by offering educational opportunities for all service members and their families.

G.I. Jobs named Keiser University a “2010 Military Friendly School”, which is a ranking Keiser is very proud to brag about. The commitment is reinforced by a new initiative with the Florida National Guard that will allow guardsmen greater flexibility to enroll in classes at any Keiser University location or online. This development is one of many offered to active duty military personnel, their dependants, reservists, and veterans.

“Keiser University’s Online Division identified a need to better serve students who are in the military and created the GI Benefits Counseling Center to address their options,” stated Olsen. She also created an entire team of prior service members who are trained to work specifically with military students, from the admissions process through financial aid.

In terms of financial aid, Keiser University participates in several programs designed for veterans such as the Montgomery GI Bill, the Post-9/11 GI Bill and the Yellow Ribbon Program. For active military there is 25% scholarship on tuition. For members of the Air Force Keiser University participates in the Air Force Educational Leave of Absence Program which allows them to attend college, full-time for up to two years, in order to complete a degree program while remaining on active duty. In exchange, the member agrees to extend their active duty commitment with potential promotional opportunities.

At Keiser University, the Student Services Department is committed to assisting our students to achieve their educational and professional goals. Professional workshops, assistance with resume writing, job interviewing skills, and job placement aid are all offered. Additionally, the online career center provides students the advantage of reviewing career postings as well as the opportunity for employers to review your resume at any time. Our Student Services Department has the relationships with local employers necessary to provide you placement assistance over a lifetime as a Keiser University graduates.
