San Diego State Opens Doors to New GI Bill Recipients

San Diego State University is taking the influx of veteran students expected to enroll after the New Post-9/11 GI Bill becomes effective in stride. In fact, the University is welcoming those students with open arms.

San Diego State University is home to the nation’s largest military community and is fully prepared to offer all it can to prospective veteran students. From meetings with student leaders and current veteran students to plans of all-military fraternity housing, San Diego State is pulling out the stops for its future and present veteran students.

One of the major factors in the University’s decision to push these programs forward is a plight for veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan to avoid facing the same homecoming as Vietnam veterans did after the war. It wants new veterans to feel welcomed instead of shunned or treated with indifference. One of the steps being taken is a secondary review of applicants who do not meet the required grade or coursework for enrollment. Those applications will be personally reviewed by a retired Army lieutenant colonel in the administration.

These are just a few of the procedures San Diego State University is enacting in order to preserve veterans’ rights to a decent and comfortable education.
