Benefits of Deployment

Benefits of Deployment

Deployment can bring about a lot of stress and anxiety to you and your family, but there are some aspects of deployment that may actually let you breathe easier.

Discounts on Insurance

There are many different insurance perks for deployed service members, including discounts on auto, life and property insurance.

For instance, you can save money on your car insurance by choosing to place your car in storage, remove yourself as a driver or even change your auto insurance coverage. When it comes to life insurance, members insured by SGLI have no “war exclusions” that leave them without coverage in times of military conflict.

To save money on your property insurance, be sure to let your insurance company know if your home will be completely unoccupied during your deployment. Installing a home security system could qualify you for up to 15% off of your homeowners basic policy premium. Additionally, some insurance companies offer up to three months of home monitoring for free with security companies during your deployment. There is also a discount on the installation of some security monitoring system.

Travel Insurance

Many times, travel plans get ruined due to early deployment or canceled scheduled leaves. To save yourself grief and dismay, be sure to invest in travel insurance to cover some of your loss.

Other Benefits

There are other  benefits as well, including certain provisions of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act of 2004, allowing for extensions on tax filing, reductions on  loan interest rates and extensions for IRA contributions.
