A Few Strategies for Acing the Interview –

With a Little Humor Thrown In To Make You Laugh

The Denver Post – Abridged

DENVER, CO — Nothing cramps the gut like job loss, as the Grim Reaper taps you on the shoulder and hands you a pink slip. Desperate to find work, I devoured countless articles with foolproof techniques for acing the interview. But even though I tried most of the strategies, the jobless days became weeks and then months. Nothing was working, so I penned my own strategies for acing the interview, which I am happy to share with you.

Dress appropriately for the interview. Men, wear a Superman costume to demonstrate your willingness to make superhuman efforts to solve company problems. Women, wear a bridal gown to show you will be totally wedded to the job.

Be on time for the interview. Expect to arrive at least 10 minutes early. Don’t forget extra copies of your resume, letters of reference and portfolio. Bring them in a shopping cart. When you meet the interviewer, remember to exude confidence. One good approach is eye contact and a firm handshake. During the interview, maintain composure and be prepared to describe your biggest accomplishments and achievements.

When asked to name your greatest weakness, don’t give a trite answer like “I’m a workaholic” or “I’m a perfectionist.” Instead, explain the bed-wetting and fire-setting. You’ll get big points for honesty. When the interview is over, take your leave with a hearty “Hi-ho, Silver, away,” as you gallop down the hallway to the exit. Don’t forget to follow up with a thank-you note. Write it on a stone tablet from Mount Sinai.
