In an important VA Covid 19 Update, the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC), a program for eligible veterans who were injured in the line of duty before May 7, 1975 or after September 11, 2001, has announced that designated family caregivers are now eligible for COVID-19 testing and vaccinations.
“Caregivers play a critical role in caring for some of our most vulnerable Veterans,” said VA Acting Under Secretary for Health Richard A. Stone, M.D. “One of the most important things we can do for caregivers is to help them take care of themselves. The current pandemic has amplified the importance of our caregivers whom we recognize as valuable members of Veterans’ health care teams.”
The VA has its own vaccine schedule based on risk factors of the Veteran population. Much like front-line responders, the VA has designated that Veteran caregivers need access to the vaccine.
Each VA location will receive a predetermined number of vaccines and will control the sign-ups to receive it. The dates of the vaccine availability have not yet been released. Veterans and their caregivers can check the VA’s COVID-19 vaccine webpage for the most current information.
