Letter from Hollywood – Tom Sherak
Tom Sherak – whose remarkable career has seen him at the pinnacle of motion picture marketing, distribution and production – now serves as president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the organization most recognized for awarding the Oscars. Previously, he was a partner at Revolution Studios, chairman of Twentieth Century Fox Domestic Film Group and consultant for Marvel Studios.
To the brave men and women who protect our country:
We enjoy an incredible standard of living in the United States, and in Hollywood, as a direct result of your hard work and sacrifice. You volunteer so much of yourselves to protect our way of life and freedom. I wanted to write to tell you it does not go unrecognized or unappreciated.
In 1967, I had the privilege of serving in the armed forces during the Vietnam War. I truly understand what it means to be away from your family and friends in service to a bigger cause. That is why I say to the spouses and children of our troops: thank you for the sacrifice you make on a daily basis.
I have worked with many retired members of the military who now consult with such care and expertise as advisors on our films, and I am continually impressed with their personal and professional standards of excellence.
From my family to yours, thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you for your courage, your strength and your selflessness. Though words are insufficient, they are truly heartfelt. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, and we wish you a blessed tour of duty, and a safe return home to your loved ones. Thank you for all that you do.
Sincerely,
Tom Sherak
