Saturday, May 19th is Armed Forces Day, a day to honor Americans serving in the five U.S. military branches – the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard – following the consolidation of the military services in the Department of Defense. Today, we celebrate Armed Forces Day much the same as they did the first one in 1949, with parades, receptions and air shows. This is a great opportunity to perform a small act of kindness for an Active Duty Military service member, Veteran, or their family. “America was built not just by great heroes or powerful politicians, but by ordinary people with wonderful ideas — by thousands whose names we don’t know, but should. They may not run for president or star on reality shows, but without their contributions, the kind of country we know would not exist.”-Bob Dotson (One of my favorite journalists & part of the Today Show Team.)

Best regards,

Debbie Gregory, CEO

Military Appreciation

Military Appreciation Night

In case you missed it, on November 14th, 2011, the Green Bay Packers celebrated Veterans Day in a novel way. The Wisconsin National Guard and veterans of all services were the champions when more than 73,000 football fans honored their service as part of the annual Military Appreciation Night. Attendees were provided with an American flag and a card to participate in a tribute to our nation’s heroes from the stands. The honors continued at halftime, when the Wisconsin National Guard's 132nd Army Band took the field. Fans cheered they performed each military service song, while representatives from each branch of the armed forces held aloft large fabric stars emblazoned with the seal of each branch — Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard. The band's rendition of "God Bless America" ended with a fireworks display, prompting chants of "U-S-A! U-S-A!" from the crowd at Lambeau Field.
