At Military Connection our honor and goal is to provide the resources and tools to help those who serve and their families now and when they become Veterans. Among our major areas of focus are jobs and employment. We are happiest when we are assisting our users, our clients, and the many wonderful non-profits and government agencies we have the pleasure of working with. Today, we are asking for your help. We are hoping that you will support us in our bid to be a winner in the Mission: Small Business contest sponsored by Chase and Living Social. Winning this would provide us the opportunity to expand our Hiring America’s Heroes program, which would result in creating jobs for veterans and their loved ones as well as entrepreneur training for those who want to begin their own business.

Please take a moment and vote for us. It is easy, and you can vote for us through your Facebook account. We need your votes to qualify. There is an illustration here, and instructions are below. Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Debbie Gregory, CEO

Tim McGraw Thanks Veterans

Tim McGraw

Homes for Veterans

Singer Tim McGraw is giving away 25 mortgage-free houses this summer to honor America’s war veterans. The “Live Like You Were Dying” hit maker is kicking off his Brothers of the Sun tour with Kenny Chesney, and as part of his commitment to retired service members, McGraw has pledged to hand one lucky veteran the keys to their own home at each concert stop. McGraw tells the Associated Press, “My sister’s a veteran, my uncle’s a veteran, my grandfather was a veteran, one of my best friends is a veteran. I’ve known people my whole life who are in service to America. And I think in my position to be able to do something like that is probably the ultimate thing. So to be able to go on tour and provide sort of a stable foundation for a veteran and their family is something I really look forward to.” McGraw’s tour began in Tampa, Fla., on June 2 and wraps up in Foxborough, MA on August 25th.

A Word of Caution

Scam Alert

Scam Alert

Emails are being sent to individuals, including military members, military retirees, and civilian employees, which appear to be sent by Defense Finance and Accounting Services. Although the email appears to come from DFAS and displays a .mil email address, it is actually from a non-government email account. These emails promise additional compensation, but in truth, they are looking to rip you off! These schemes can be quite costly for victims who pay upfront fees to file these claims, and the scam artists are often long gone when victims discover they’ve been scammed. Tempered Steel

Honoring The Wounds Of War

The Tempered Steel photo introspective "Honoring The Wounds Of War" is currently on exhibit at the Muchnic Art Gallery. Free to the public and running through July 11th, "Honoring the Wounds of War" portrays the beauty behind the scars of war. The images of these wounded military members, all Iraq or Afghanistan veterans, are a testament to the courage and heroism of our nations wounded military members. Atchison natives, Ret. Army Sgt. Scott Stephenson and his mother, Luana Schneider, co-founded Tempered Steel after Scott was seriously wounded and disfigured in Iraq. The goal of Tempered Steel is to educate by exposing the very real human stories and the individual beauty behind the wounds of war. Photographer Micaela Bensko was able to capture vulnerability, strength, humor and adaptability, soliciting the compassion and empathy that those injured heroes greatly desire.
