August 4th marks the anniversary of the beginning of the war in Vietnam. Although the conflict was one of the most unpopular wars ever, it was the Vietnam Veterans who paid the price. There are organizations that are working to properly thank these Veterans. What is most heartwarming, however, is the Vietnam Veterans that are working to ensure that OIF and OEF Veterans don't suffer the same fate. If you encounter an active duty serviceman, please remember to say, "Thank you for your service." If you encounter a Veteran, from any era, please take a moment to say, "Thank you and welcome home." It is an expression of gratitude that is greatly appreciated.

Warm regards,

Debbie Gregory, CEO

Mentoring Military Children

Big Brother Big Sister

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County received a grant to reach out to military families and provide support through their Military Mentoring Program. The grant was provided by the OJJDP, with a letter of support from the Department of Defense. The program joins military children with Big Brother and Big Sister mentors. These children often face unique challenges that may include separation and loss, in addition to the stresses of military life. Their mentors provide additional support for both children and parents. The program has proven to encourage and improve the children’s educational endeavors and build healthy relationships. The goal is to match a caring adult mentor with any military child who needs or wants one.
