Military Connection

As 2012 comes to a close, we at MilitaryConnection.com want to take this opportunity to express our appreciation for you, our users and subscribers. We also want to express our gratitude to the numerous non-profits and associations that we have the honor to work with and admire. We want to take this opportunity to recognize our clients, who provide us the opportunity to do what we do and help these amazing non-profits. And of course, we owe a huge debt of gratitude to our troops, first responders, Veterans, and the families who support them. But I would be remiss if I didn’t mention our nation’s teachers, the often unsung heroes who teach, care for and protect our children. In light of recent events, this has never more true. Our hope for everyone this holiday season is a renewed sense of appreciation for our loved ones and our freedom.

Warm regards,

Debbie Gregory, CEO

A Great American

Senator Daniel Inouye

Farewell to a True Patriot - RIP

Our condolences to the family of Senator Daniel K. Inouye, who passed away on December 17th at the age of 88. Inouye was the Senate's most senior member. He was the first congressman to serve the new state of Hawaii beginning in 1959, before moving to the U.S. Senate four years later., Inouye has the distinction of being the first Japanese-American to serve in both houses of Congress. As a U.S. soldier during World War II, Inouye fought in Italy, where he lost an arm, and was later awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery. He wanted only to be remembered as someone who had represented his constituents honestly and to the best of his ability, and that will be his legacy.

Standing Up for the Guard and Reserves

National Guard

Support of Guard & Reserve - It's The Law

Sgt. Maj. Richard Erickson, a U.S. Postal Service employee who was fired when he tried to return to work after four years on active duty with the National Guard, will be reinstated with over $2 million in back pay, benefits and attorney fees, a judge recently ruled. When the USPS refused to reinstate Erickson in 2000, the father of three from Ft. Meyers, Fla., re-enlisted in the National Guard and deployed to Afghanistan as part of a Special Forces team. He has received over 35 medals and decorations, including three combat distinguished valor awards and the Purple Heart. The ruling has strengthened countless servicemembers’ rights under USERRA by setting judicial precedent.
