As 2011 comes to a close, we at MilitaryConnection.com want to take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you a lovely holiday season and a healthy, happy, and prosperous New Year. The end of the year affords us the opportunity to reflect back on the passing year. As we welcome home our troops, let's all remember the sacrifices that have been made by our men and women in uniform and their families.

MilitaryConnection.com is known as "The Go To Site". There are thousands of pages of resources and something of value for everyone including military, veterans, family members and civilians. Throughout the year, we hope you will visit us often and remember, "When the next tour is back home, it's on MilitaryConnection.com".

Warm Regards,

Merry Christmas My Friend
Written by:
James M. Schmidt

In 1987 while serving as a sniper in the U.S. Marine Corps, Lance Corporal James M. Schmidt wrote a poem to hang on the door of the gym in the enlisted quarters. When his commanding officer saw the poem, he immediately had copies sent throughout the Barracks. The poem has been included in the Marine Corps Gazette and Leatherneck Magazine, as well as its annual appearance in various versions on the internet every year around the holidays. Mr. Schmidt, Esq., has graciously given us permission to reprint the original version here.

Operation Gratitude

Operation Gratitude Delivers 750,000th Package

As more than 2,000 volunteers, corporate sponsors and other special guests looked on, Operation Gratitude founder Carolyn Blashek hand-delivered the milestone 750,000th Care Package to its special recipient, a decorated combat veteran and wounded warrior, Sgt. Eric Rodriguez. Rodriguez, 29, joined the U.S. Marine Corps at 17-years-old, straight out of high school. He thought he had been invited to speak about the morale-boosting impact care packages have on deployed troops at the Armory. While that was true, there was an additional reason Operation Gratitude invited him - to award him the milestone Care package. For more information, visit them on the web.

Accordingly, there are many sites that explain how to obtain books, military/medical records, information and how to appeal a denied claim with the VA. Most of this information is free and available to all veterans, but you have to ask for it.
