On November 21st, President Obama signed into law the Returning Heroes & Wounded Warrior Tax Credits, providing even more of an incentive for businesses to hire unemployed veterans. With credits ranging from $2,400 to $5,600, and up to $9,600 for long-term unemployed veterans with service-connected disabilities, doing the right thing has never been easier. These unemployed Veterans are not nameless strangers, they are our country’s heroes, our friends and neighbors. We would like to introduce you to Valerie Brown, an unemployed Veteran who went as far as an appearance on Late Show with David Letterman to try to find a job. Please take a minute to read our feature on Valerie below, watch her spot on Letterman, and perhaps once you know more about her, you can help her get back to work.

Warm regards,

Debbie Gregory, CEO

Tainted Water at Camp Lejeune

USMC Camp Lejeune

Affected Marines Should File Claim

The Caring for Camp Lejeune Families Act recognizes the water contamination problem that occurred at Camp Lejeune, N.C., between 1957 and 1987. Many Marines and their families living at the base later developed cancer or other ailments, which many blame on the contaminated drinking water. The Marine Corps has since cleaned up the water supply and the water is safe. If you were stationed at Camp Lejeune, from 1957 through 1987 and you have cancer or any unexplained illness, contact the Solano Veterans Service Office and file a claim. If you lived or worked at Camp Lejeune prior to 1987, you may register here to receive notifications regarding Camp Lejeune Historic Drinking Water. It is recommended that all veterans who served at Lejeune during the aforementioned time frame with illnesses that could be tied to this exposure should file a claim for service-connected disability. The families of these veterans who lived on this base during that time should register on the above website and get further information.
