April is the Month of the Military Child. Introduced by former Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger, the designation emphasizes the important role children play in the Armed Forces community. Events such as picnics, parades, fairs and festivals recognize and applaud Military families and their children for the daily sacrifices they make. April is the official month that we recognize these children and honor them for their character, courage and resilience. We should hold them in our thoughts and hearts all year round.

Sincerely,

Debbie Gregory, CEO

Officials extend deadline to apply for 'Stop Loss' pay

Alt

Officials Extend Deadline

The deadline to apply for Retroactive Stop Loss Special Pay has been re-instated and extended to October 21, 2012. Service members and veterans whose military service was involuntarily extended under the “Stop Loss” program between the 9/11 terrorist attacks and Sept. 30, 2009, are eligible for special retroactive pay. The special pay is compensation for the hardships the involuntary extensions caused, officials said. Eligible members or their beneficiaries may submit a claim to their respective military service to receive $500 for each full or partial month served in a Stop Loss status. Because the majority of those eligible had separated from the military, many eligible service members, veterans and their beneficiaries are not aware of the benefit. Armed Forces Day Salute, May 19

America For Vets

Welcome Home Events

Over the past ten years that our military forces have been deployed overseas, civilian America has gone about its business. On Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 19, Richmond, Virginia will give our country’s returning heroes a welcome home parade they won't soon forget. They will also have a veterans' resource village at the end of the parade route, featuring veterans' service organizations, state and local veterans support groups and veteran-friendly employers. To check out other cities hosting a welcome home event, click here. This is about thanking those who have been deployed to faraway places. It's an opportunity to show appreciation to the heroes who have missed Christmases, weddings, and even the births of their children, so that our families can sleep safely at night.
