We at MilitaryConnection.com want to take this opportunity to express our appreciation for you, our audience and subscribers. Most of last year, we labored on updating and revamping our website in order to make it more user friendly, especially for those of you who access the site on your mobile devices or tablets. Please visit the new site and let us know what you think.

We also want to express our gratitude to the numerous non-profits and associations that we have the honor of working with on a regular basis. To our clients, we recognize your needs and place your message front and center with our significant audience You provide us the opportunity to do what we do, and help these amazing non-profits. And of course, we owe a huge debt of gratitude to our troops, our Veterans, and the families who support them. But I would be remiss if I didn’t mention our nation’s first responders, who also protect us, day in and day out. In light of recent events, it is our hope that this holiday season, we can all find peaceful resolve to the many conflicts facing us and our country.

A Win-Win

Great Way To End The Year

Great Way To End The Year

HR 5771, the bill that included the Veterans' hiring tax credits, among other tax credit extensions, passed in both houses, and was signed by President Obama. We would like to thank all of our users who took the time to contact their Senators in support of these very important tax credits. By making Veteran hiring more attractive to employers, we are not only kick-starting the economy, but also making a payment on the national debt owed to those who have served.

Taxpayers Beware!

Staying One Step Ahead of the Scammers

Staying One Step Ahead of the Scammers

The Treasury Inspector General for Taxpayer Administration has issued a warning to taxpayers to beware of phone calls from individuals claiming to represent the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in an effort to defraud them. Callers claiming to be from the IRS tell intended victims they owe taxes and must pay using a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer. The truth is the IRS usually first contacts people by mail about unpaid taxes. And, the IRS will never ask for payment using a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer. People who get a call from someone claiming to be with the IRS asking for a payment should call the IRS at 800-829-1040 if they think they owe federal taxes. People can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at www.FTC.gov -- add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments in their complaint. Forward any scam emails to phishing@irs.gov.

Questions, Questions...

Your GI Bill Benefits

Your GI Bill Benefits

The Post 9/11 GI Bill affords many great benefits, including tuition, a housing allowance, and a book/supplies stipend. But how do you choose a school that will best meet your needs? What is the best way to use your benefit? How do you connect with other Veterans and become part of that community? Military Connection Staff Writer Joe Silva shares his experiences as a Veteran student who has navigated these waters, having achieved his Bachelor's degree, and steaming full speed ahead (Navy puns intentional, Joe!) towards his Master's. We invite you to read his articles to find answers to your questions.

Bringing Them Home

Missing, But Not Forgotten

Missing, But Not Forgotten

Storyteller Original Films is in production on a documentary about our nation's many thousands of MIAs. "A Solemn Promise, America's Missing in Action" tells the story of the intense, ongoing searches for our missing servicemen, lost in wars and conflicts. The MIA's family's stories are touching and heartbreaking. Many have no understanding of why their loved ones never came home. Some have waited, without closure, for more than sixty years. Snowball Express

Gary Makes It Eight In A Row

Gary Makes It Eight In A Row

On December 11th, some 2,000 children and spouses of fallen military heroes arrived at DFW Airport to board the 9th annual Snowball Express. And for the eighth year in a row, the families enjoyed a private concert with Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band. The concert took place on 12/13/14 at Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base in the VR-59 Hangar. The families also received the red carpet treatment for a viewing of the new movie "Annie," toured the Perot Museum, and had an authentic Western cookout at Sheriff's Posse Ranch. If you would like more information about attending next year, making a donation, or volunteering, visit them on the web.
