Newsletter - JULY 2014 #2

Unsubscribe | Tell a Friend

On July 16th, First Lady Michelle Obama was the keynote speaker at the United Way’s Unite for Veterans Summit. As I watched the live stream, I was grateful to see the spotlight shining on our nation’s Veterans, especially as it pertains to housing and education. Issues faced by veterans and military families have remained one of the first lady's top priorities.

I am honored to serve on California’s Interagency Council in both the Employment and Housing groups, Co-Chairing Cal TAPS and the Affordable Housing sub-committees. I couldn’t agree with Mrs. Obama more when she said, "After everything they have done for us, the idea that any of our Veterans are spending months or even years struggling to find a job is unacceptable." Educating Veterans so that they can find substantial jobs is key to eliminating homelessness for the 58,000 Veterans who need housing.

Best regards,

Debbie Gregory, CEO

Rock On

Leading By Example

Leading By Example

After missing last summer’s event due to a scheduling conflict, Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band made sure the schedule was clear for this year’s Rockin’ for the Troops event, a benefit for Operation Support Our Troops - America in Wheaton, IL. It’s probably safe to say that Gary is among the elite supporters of our military, Veterans and first responders. He sets the bar for the rest of us as to how we can best support those who lay their lives on the line for us all. Next up for Gary and the band is a September date at Camp Lejeune, followed by Lt. Dan Weekend 5 Veteran Benefit Concert, benefitting the Independence Fund at the North Charleston Coliseum, SC, on Saturday, September 20, 2014.
