With over one million Veterans expected to return home in the next three years, we have an unprecedented opportunity, as well as a civic obligation, to strengthen their pathways to success. To prepare for their return home and their transition back to civilian life, separating military men and women will need to follow one of several paths: jobs and careers, pursuing higher education, technical training, or beginning their own business. Service members who are exiting active duty should be armed with the tools and information they will need to live, succeed, and prosper. At MilitaryConnection.com, we offer the resources and information to ensure that all Veterans have a seamless pathway to pursuing future employment opportunities by gaining the knowledge and skills needed for success. We are also partnering to create training programs and jobs for Veterans. If you want to partner with Military Connection to aid the less than 1% who serve, please contact me.

Best regards,

Debbie Gregory, CEO

A Night of Harmony

Award Dinner and Benefit Concert

The David Lynch Foundation will host A Night of Harmony, honoring legendary music producer Rick Rubin on Thursday, February 27, 2014, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles. Proceeds from this event will go towards bringing meditation to at-risk youth and Veterans. For more information on ticket and table packages, click here. What is a Hero?

Gary Sinise

Tangible Accomplishments

We often feature the Gary Sinise Foundation and the Lt. Dan Band in our newsletters. We like to refer to Gary as the “Bob Hope of our generation.” We often tell you about the great work Gary’s foundation is doing, and we often tell you where you can catch a performance by the Lt. Dan Band. But this month, we hope you will take a few minutes (well, actually nine minutes and twelve seconds) to visit the Gary Sinise Foundation’s YouTube channel, so that you can see and meet the wounded warriors the foundation serves. Nine minutes and twelve seconds that may possibly change the way you define the word “hero”.

A Veteran’s Perspective

A Veterans Perspective

First-hand Advice

MilitaryConnection.com Staff Writer and Navy Veteran Joe Silva has been diligently putting pen to paper (or more accurately, fingers to keyboard!), writing a series of articles to benefit both Veteran students and Veteran job seekers. The articles give Silva the opportunity to impart his military experience to other Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) Veterans. The education articles recount Joe’s experience using the Post-9/11 GI Bill, offering direction and advice on how to get the most from GI Bill benefits, and the back-to-school experience as a whole. The employment series discusses the valuable Veteran employment resources that are available, including how to use military experience to land a job. A Hero’s Welcome

Welcome Home Soldier

Leading By Example

The Veterans of Winter Park, Florida wanted to give a soldier a loving welcome home. Working with Budweiser as their sponsor, they were able to give 24-year-old Lt. Chuck Nadd "A Hero's Welcome." Lt. Nadd, who served in Afghanistan as a Black Hawk helicopter pilot and operations officer, was told by his CO that he had been chosen to be featured in a documentary about soldiers. He never expected to see the entire town of Winter Park assembled to give him an old-fashioned ticker tape parade, complete with marching bands, antique vehicles, the VFW motorcycle club, and the famous Budweiser Clydesdales. The entire event can be seen in a 60 second Super Bowl commercial on February 2nd, but if you’d like to watch the documentary on how this all came together, and we strongly recommend you do, click here, and have Kleenex ready.

National Veterans Day Poster

Will Your Idea Be Picked?

Do you have an idea for the 2014 National Veterans Day poster? Each year, the Veterans Day National Committee sponsors a contest to find the finalist for the National Veterans Day poster. In the past, they’ve received submissions from industry, academia, Veterans and family members, and elementary and middle school children, among others. More than 20,000 copies are distributed globally. The poster graces the cover of the official program for the Veterans Day Celebration at Arlington National Cemetery, establishes the theme for the ceremony, and is a popular memento from the event. It will also be used for flyers, programs and photographs If you have an idea that reflects the valor, courage, selfless service and sacrifice of our men and women who have served, and would like to submit it to the Veterans Day National Committee for consideration, email Micheal Migliara.
