April is the Month of the Military Child. Today, there are nearly two million military-connected children. More than 900,000 of these children have had a parent deploy multiple times and more than 44,700 children are living with a parent’s wound, injury, illness, or death. Introduced in 1986 by former Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger, the designation emphasizes the important role children play in the Armed Forces community. Frequent moves, family separations through deployments followed by reintegration issues make life for these children especially challenging. Often military children are looked up to for their resilience and ability to deal with life changing events. Throughout April, picnics, parades, fairs and festivals recognize and applaud Military families and their children for the daily sacrifices they make. Although we recognize these children and honor them for their character, courage and resilience this month, we encourage everyone to seek out opportunities to express appreciation for these remarkable children. Let’s hold them in our thoughts and hearts all year round.

Best regards,

Debbie Gregory, CEO

Rates Heading Higher

Vets Can Save

“VA. FHA. APR. 5/1 ARM. Closing Costs. NO Closing Costs." What do these terms mean? Our friends at Vets Can Save want to help you navigate the confusing landscape of mortgage options available today. Mortgage loan rates have bounced UP a bit, but they are still great, making now the best time to buy a home or refinance an existing mortgage. VetsCanSave clients benefit from an additional mortgage management program called ArcLoan®. Arc (Automatic Rate Cut) allows veterans to take advantage of interest rate cycles by lowering their mortgages for little to no cost when rates fall, increasing savings and reducing debt. The mission statement at Vets Can Save is “If we can help, we want your business. If we cannot, we want to educate and point the way, within our best ability.” For information with no obligation, click here.

Making the Transition

Military Skills Translator

Military Skills Translator is Here!

It is expected that within the next four years, approximately 1 million U.S. Armed Forces personnel will transition from military to civilian life. Unfortunately, military servicemen and women often have difficulties transitioning to jobs in the private sector. One of the challenges is that military job codes don't easily translate to civilian job descriptions, making it difficult for veterans to find meaningful civilian careers that match their skills and interests. The Military Occupational Specialty Translator is a comprehensive database of occupational skills, knowledge, and abilities that can help you align your military experience, education, and training with current civilian workplace needs. This invaluable tool will help you zero in the key words that a prospective civilian employer will recognize. We are proud to make this invaluable tool available on our website here.

Dental Help for Veterans

Rebuilding Americas Warriors

Pro Bono Dental Surgeries

No one has been able to pinpoint the exact cause, but a number of Afghanistan/Iraq War Veterans are experiencing massive dental deterioration. Because the source of the problem remains a mystery, rebuilding the teeth of these Veterans is only covered by the VA for those who are 100% disabled by other injuries. With surgeries costing thousands of dollars, many of these Veterans do not have the option of fixing the problem. Thanks to Rebuilding America's Warriors (RAW) , a 501(c)3 charitable foundation, dental reconstructive surgery is available for some of those in need. For more information on RAW, click here.
