The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has released a comprehensive report on Veterans suicides, including data for both Veterans who had received health care services from VA, as well as those who had not. This information will help the VA strengthen its aggressive suicide prevention activities. Additionally, the VA has announced that it has made significant progress in providing increased access to mental health care services for our Nation’s Veterans by hiring new mental health Professionals. This is definitely a step in the right direction, but Veteran suicides will remain a national tragedy until they are stopped. If you are depressed or having thoughts of suicide, be courageous and ask for help! If you suspect a friend or loved one needs help, offer them a lifeline. Give An Hour, The Soldiers Project, and the VA Crisis Line provide free and private counseling to military, veterans, family members and others.

Best regards,

Pin-up Army

Join the Pin-Up Army

Pin-Up girls have been around since the 1890s, but became most popular in the 1940s. Many "pin ups" were photographs of celebrities who were considered sex symbols. Men wanted to look at them and women wanted to look-like them. In that tradition, Pinups for Patriots, a woman veteran-owned small business, is devoted to lifting the spirits of our deployed service members. Through the sale of calendars and T-shirts, Pinups for Patriots is able to not only donate money to a number of military charities, but also donate calendars to deployed service members. If you would like to find out more about volunteer opportunities, or to purchase a calendar for yourself, or donate one (or both!), click here.

Tribute to the Fallen

Memory Champion

Remembers Each Of The Fallen

Ron White is on a mission to tour the country. He is not a musician. He is not a politician. But what he does is a gift, and he wants to share it. White, of Fort Worth, Texas, is traveling the country with a 50 foot white board, on a mission to share the names of 2,000 fellow servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice, losing their lives in Military service since 2001. White, who's skilled at memorizing names, says he wants people to remember the fallen. The Navy veteran, who served as an intelligence specialist, hopes to spend the next 12-15 months traveling, writing each name he’s memorized at every stop. White hasn’t fully mapped out where he plans to go next with his project. White is looking for donations and sponsors to help with the cost. So far, he’s invested $16,000 into the makeshift wall, a trailer and insurance. “I’m not looking to profit from this,” White said. “This is my way of remembering that those who gave the ultimate sacrifice aren’t forgotten.” For more information, visit him on the web.

Making the Transition

Military Skills Translator

Military Skills Translator is Here!

It is expected that within the next four years, approximately 1 million U.S. Armed Forces personnel will transition from military to civilian life. Unfortunately, military servicemen and women often have difficulties transitioning to jobs in the private sector. One of the challenges is that military job codes don't easily translate to civilian job descriptions, making it difficult for veterans to find meaningful civilian careers that match their skills and interests. The Military Occupational Specialty Translator is a comprehensive database of occupational skills, knowledge, and abilities that can help you align your military experience, education, and training with current civilian workplace needs. This invaluable tool will help you zero in the key words that a prospective civilian employer will recognize. We are proud to make this invaluable tool available on our website here.
