Every day, we read stories about bravery, heroism, and triumph in the face of adversity. But when I read about Brendan Marrocco, I was in complete awe of this young man. On his Facebook, he describes himself as a "wounded warrior...very wounded." Marrocco has the distinction of being the first soldier to survive losing all four limbs in the Iraq War. Marrocco, a 26-year-old New Yorker, was injured by a roadside bomb in 2009. In December, the talented physicians at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore successfully completed a double-arm transplant. "Not having arms takes so much away from you. Even your personality, you know. You talk with your hands. You do everything with your hands, and when you don't have that, you're kind of lost for a while," the 26-year-old New Yorker told reporters Tuesday at a news conference at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Brendan’s determination to regain his independence was one of the chief reasons he was chosen to receive the surgery. His message for other wounded warriors? "Just not to give up hope. You know, life always gets better, and you're still alive," he said. "And to be stubborn. There's a lot of people who will say you can't do something. Just be stubborn and do it anyway. Work your ass off and do it."

If you would like to send an email greeting of encouragement to Brendan, click here. If you would like to send a card, you can mail it to us at Military Connection, 250 E. Easy Street Suite 4, Simi Valley, CA 93065. All cards and emails will be included in our care package to Brendan.

Best regards,

Debbie Gregory, CEO MilitaryConnection.com
